LockGuard Contest

The time is drawing to an end, for the LockGuard contest!

A few entries have already been passed to me for the contest, but I believe there are still some adding the last minute touches to their own. There is a prize up for grabs of 10,000 L. 6,000 L for first place, 3,000 L for second place, and 1,000 L for third place. And only a day remaining to get the entries submitted. The deadline for entries would have been today, but with all the problems Second Life has been experiencing it was necessary to extend for another 24 hours. I have not looked at any of the entries which have been submitted to me….. so, it will be quite exciting to see who has built what….. and who will win the prize.

Last month, Locklear Aoi won with her Tri-Axis Spinner. She won the contest by a landslide.

I couldn’t even venture a guess to as who will win this month’s contest, especially with not having seen any of the entries.

If you’re interested in developing with LockGuard or entering the contest, you can pick up the kit from SL Exchange http://www.slexchange.com

Rumored 30

So, the latest Big Brother rumor is that 30 have been chosen to enter the Big Brother house. 15 a couple days ago. 15 last night. At least, that’s what some have said.

Of course, as I’ve said before….. rumor and speculation run wild as the days near the “official” start of Big Brother: Second Life.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again….. until it comes directly from King or crew, an official group announcement, I’ll dismiss it as hearsay.

Trials and Tribulations Of The Day After Update Day

Second Life is down again.

I can’t even access the website to see what the status of the grid is….. and there’s nothing in the blog.

Typical post-update day, but I do hope things are put back in order again shortly. I went most of yesterday without Second Life, I’m not sure how well I could handle a second day without spending a few hours as my virtual self!

Big Brother Selections

Oh, the questions, the questions.

How many people have asked me, “Did you get selected for Big Brother?” Well, to answer this question. There is a 1 in 4 chance I did get selected for Big Brother and there is a 3 in 4 chance I didn’t get selected….. why should I help spoil the surprise?

I’m sure when Big Brother is ready, they’ll announce the 15.

Until then…..

CopyBot

!quit does not work.

!quit does not work.

!quit does not work.

Only the original build of CopyBot responded to !quit, and even the Linden themselves have said that !quit does not work….. all that !quit is doing is spamming people. *Sigh*

Updates: The Sequel

Well, I made it! I’m back into the Second World, and now it’s just a matter of waiting for the login load and database load to simmer down and go back to normal. Right now, searching, teleporting, and looking at profiles seems to be spotty at the very best, but I will hang in there!

Meanwhile, the speculation about who the lucky 15 for Big Brother are. The first thing I see when I log in from the Big Brother group is, “who got in?” I know we’re all interested in finding out who the 15 are, but only time can and will tell.

Updates

The one thing you can always count on in Second Life is the inability to log in after an update….. and as the flood gates open, and more and more people play Second Life, it will become harder and harder to get online after each update. Of course, the worst part is….. the logins are open, but I can’t even access the Second Life website to download the new client, and my current version is refusing to auto-update. *Sigh*

I want my Second Life fix! *Sniffle*

Big Brother Selections

One more day until the “big” Big Brother accouncement.

As I have been hanging around the Big Brother Island, I have heard many rumors, much speculation, a lot of hearsay, and more than enough conspiracies and theories. All of these things have been floating left, right, and center…. none of which I have been paying any sort of attention to. Unless it comes directly from the mouth of King or Crew, a Big Brother group notice, an official press release, or an email….. it simply has no merit.

Who will make it into the Big Brother glass house and become an official Big Brother resident?

Who will sit on the sidelines?

Officially, nobody knows. And if somebody does know, they are not saying.

Downtime…..

Wednesday morning, update day for Second Life. The fate of the Second World rests in the hands of a few brave and bold Lindens (the demi-gods of Second Life) for better or for worse, often with mixed results. There always new features being added to Second Life, and the bugs being banged out of the old features. Second Life has gone through many changes, even since I have been there in April of 2006.

There are many who complain that Second Life is always laggy, slow, constant packet loss, etc, and they say it only gets worse which each update. But, I, unlike they, rarely ever experience these things. So, I’m left to wonder….. is Second Life *really* that bad or is it the computer and connection upon which it is running. Sure, you can have a top of the line computer….. but, what will that do for you if it is filled with spyware, or you have dozens of pieces of software running in the background (really, look at your icon tray, is there more than six?). Then there are people who never defrag their hard drives regularly….. yes, it’s important, especially for caching of information. Defrag weekly, people!
Then, you have those who say, “Well, World of Warcraft and a bunch of other MMORPGs have millions of users and isn’t half as laggy as Second Life.” To this…. I respond….. All of these MMORPGs handle meshes, textures, sounds, maps on the side of the client, where they are stored. Of course they run faster, the servers and client only have to send *very* basic information back and forth. With games like WoW the server tells the client what to do with files *already* stored on your computer. Second Life, on the other hand, the server has to send you *everything*. It has to send you the sounds, the textures, the objects….. and not only does it have to send this information to you, it has to send it to everyone around you….. and then sync the use of this information. I can assure you, if MMORPG servers like World of Warcraft had to send even 5% of the information the Second Life servers send you, the World of Warcraft would come screeching to an abrupt and immediate halt.

Anyway! There are some new privacy features coming to Second Life that I have been looking forward to….. the elimination of being able to “map” or teleport to someone, for instance. I don’t mind being found online or messaged, but I really don’t need to have an electronic ankle bracelet telling anyone who might know me where I am at any given moment. Sorry, just because I know you or you know me, does not mean I want you to put a deer tag in my ear and look me up by satellite when you feel like it.

Okay. That last post was just a quick introduction to play “catch up!”.

New topic! Current Events.

Awhile ago the popular, reality TV series “Big Brother” moved into Second Life, launching Big Brother: Second Life. Endemol (http://www.endemol.com or .nl, depending) is bringing the show to Second Life in virtual style. I signed up as a potential contestant for the first virtual version of Big Brother, in the hopes of becoming one of the 15 finalists picked to participate. So, to make a long story short, out of the 300 or so potentials, I was picked in the first round of selections….. 1 of 60 (62) people chosen to be potential finalists. And now, everyone is just waiting to find out who the final 15 out of the 60 (62) chosen are…..

By just hanging out on the Big Brother Island watching things happen, I’ve met a few interesting people….. and a few interesting characters. Of course, it hasn’t been without its little mishaps. For instance, I was ejected from the island today by a crew member for running around in the house in an Alien Queen avatar. Of course, it was all in good fun and no harm was intended….. and I’m sure they took it with the sense of humor in which I intended. However, there’s a permanent boot print in the ass of my Alien Queen avatar…..
